GABA Announces Strategic Leadership Transitions to Strengthen Support for U.S.-Based African and Caribbean Businesses

DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- The Global African Business Association (GABA) is pleased to announce key leadership transitions aimed at enhancing its mission to support U.S.-based African and Caribbean businesses and foster economic growth. These changes reflect GABA’s commitment to strategic leadership that bridges innovation and impact.

Effective immediately:

  • Akindele Akinyemi will transition from his role as Chairman of GABA to serve as the Principal of The GABA Marketplace Center. In his new role, Mr. Akinyemi will lead efforts to cultivate innovative solutions that drive business excellence and serve as a hub for U.S.-based African and Caribbean entrepreneurs seeking sustainable growth.

  • O. Rerhi Onomake, formerly serving as CEO of GABA, will expand her leadership role to include President and Chairwoman of the organization. As President/Chairwoman and CEO, Ms. Onomake will guide GABA’s strategic vision, ensuring the organization continues to deliver high-impact programs and resources that empower businesses to thrive in today’s dynamic economy.

These transitions reinforce GABA’s ongoing focus on dynamic leadership and innovation across its entities.

Additionally, The GABA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the organization, continues to be led by Rhonna-Rose Akama-Makia as Executive Director. Under her stewardship, the Foundation prioritizes supporting U.S.-based African and Caribbean businesses through grants, community development initiatives, and technical assistance programs, including the newly introduced "GABAWorks."
